Smoking Vapor – Mi-Pod Review

Mi-Pod Review 2018

Its been just over 3 years since I first started vaping and about 2 years and 9 months since my last mouth to lung device ( MTL ). That is until now, today I am going to be sharing my thoughts on the Mi-Pod. The Mi-Pod is a pod device, more on that in a moment. I have a personal interest in these pod systems because

I am due to go away with work in June and due to the nature of my job, there is no way I can take my normal devices with me. So I have been looking at these pod systems with keen interest. The Mi-Pod time and time again popped up on my feed on Instagram and seemed to be getting good feedback. However, I am sceptical when it comes to Instagram reviews ( as the lego song goes – everything is awesome ) So I was pleased when E Liquids UK offered me the chance to review one of them.

Pod Devices

Pod devices are simply mods that take a pod. A pod is essentially a tank, coil and cotton all in one. Some are refillable and some are use one time only. The idea being that you fill the pod, pop it in the mod and vape away. Benefits include the ability to swap flavour whenever you want by inserting a new pod. Leak-free design, reasonable replacement cost for the pods. These are however suited for those that have just quit smoking or require a decent intake of nicotine still. In my case, I don’t always need more nicotine but given I will not be able to freely vape when I am away then I thought this might be a good idea.

Closer Look

The Mi-Pod is tiny! A real stealth mod if I ever did see one. I was sent the Black mod for review. Out of the box, it has no pod installed these are sealed separately. Starting at the top of the mod you will see the Mi-Pod logo and the space for the pod. Looking into this there are 3 parts, firstly 2 connections that connect to the metal parts of the pod that in turn connect to the coil. In the middle of the pod area is a raised connecting hole that connects to the middle of the pod. I think this is where the draw activation mechanism is located and finally an LED light.

The front, rear and one side are covered in a soft material mine have a cool blocky design on it that’s slightly raised. On the final side, you will find the MicroUSB charging port. Below this is a small button to power on/off and to put the mod into stealth mode (no lights) if you hold the button for a few seconds. That’s it, simple!

The Mi-Pods

Clear Refillable Mi-Pods

The pods come sealed and have a silicone cover around the fill hole below. The mouthpiece is rectangular with 2 small holes, one for the draw and one for airflow. The airflow hole points to the outside edge of the mod so be careful not to cover it. I did find that due to how you naturally hold this your hands are clear of this hole anyway. Looking inside the pod ( because it does not come apart ) you can see the coil at the base with a small about of cotton, the 2ml chamber and the airflow system inside.

To fill these up you simply unplug the silicone cap from the base of the pod to reveal a small hole and fill up the chamber until it is full. You will see the cotton wicking up the juice and you know you are ready to go. Push the pod firmly into the mod ensuring the metal contacts on the pod are on the same side as the ones in the mod you will feel a click and away you go.

In Use

Using the Mi-Pod could not be easier. Five clicks to power on and take a draw. Bear in mind this is an MTL device, the draw is tight but not too tight but you will struggle to get a decent direct to lung. For me, it took some getting used to going back to MTL vaping it was like I had forgotten that way of vaping like smoking.

When you take a draw the mod activates and fires, stopping when you stop your draw. At the same time as you draw the LED lights up in one of 3 colours depending on battery status. Blue is full to around 50% then Purple and finally Red when the battery is running low. Obviously with stealth mode on you will not see these lights but you become accustomed to how it vapes according to the battery because you are taking the full power of the battery each time to vape. As you vape the battery drains and the power lessens each time. When you feel the battery not pushing out much power it is time for a charge. The saying about the feeling of a fully charged battery definitely is true here.

Charging is as easy as plugging the MicroUSB in. The LED lights up blue until full charge is reached and then goes out to indicate charging finished

My ExperienceMi-Pod And Element Ns20 Nic Salt

Overall I have been very impressed with the Mi-Pod. I used it with some Elements NS20 ( Designer Nic Salts ) Key Lime Cookie Flavour. Detailed information on Nic Salts can be found by clicking on the link. For me, I usually vape 3mg, but I sub-ohm or use a dripper. One thing I knew was that 3mg in an MTL (mouth-to-lung) was not going to cut it with the smaller draws. So I bought some nicotine salts to both as a necessity to use the Mi-Pod and I was also curious about them. I filled the first pod on Saturday and refilled it on Monday evening. That was averaging around 1 ML of liquid a day and I was using this all day at work and in the evenings at home. On a typical day, I would normally be vaping 10x this amount at least! For these two days, I used nothing else. I wanted to see how long it would take me, a constant vaper, to empty and drain the battery. I really wanted to kill the coil too!

So 1ml a day, 2 days battery life and just over an hour to charge up again it’s an impressive little device. I want to say I was completely satisfied but I can’t commit to that fully. Yes, I was satisfied with the nicotine salt performance from it, It was clear it was killing my craving. The salts in this were very smooth, felt like a vape of just over 3mg ( The salts are actually 20mg ) The same liquid in the gusto made me cough hard. This is one of the plus points to salt, they are in fact much smoother to vape. Flavour however from the key lime cookie was nice, but it was not amazing like the normal key lime cookie. But then you have to think this is a smaller draw, MTL and a 1.0 ohm coil so with that in mind it was acceptable.

The mouthpiece takes a little getting used to the rectangular shape to it feels a little odd at the beginning but you do get used to it. Thankfully the size of it is not a mouthful and you soon find a comfortable way to vape using it. I really like this and I will be using this one when I go away and will continue to use it for work. It’s small enough to slip in my pocket with no problem and small enough to discreetly use when large clouds may not be appropriate. By the way, 1 week on from that new coil is still going like its new… I did not kill it!

If you are interested in purchasing the Mi-Pod Kit follow that link they are so well priced now at just £19.99!
